It compares TELUS's Gatekeeper/GLMG, Hutchinsons' Omnia, xFarm Technologies, Cropwise Operations, Landmark Systems Ltd's Geofolia, and us at Soil Benchmark!
For those who don’t know us, Soil Benchmark is a UK startup building farm management software for agronomists and farmers — helping with soil, manure, nutrient and crop protection planning in a way that is quicker, easier and more map-based.
We started a couple of years ago with Soil Sage, our tool for soil management plans. That was really the product that got us going. Since then, more than 6,000 farms have been added to the platform, covering more than 14% of England’s farmland, with more than 300,000 fields mapped. 500+ agronomists and advisers using us regularly.
A lot of what has happened since came from users pushing us further. Having used us for soil plans, they kept asking us to solve other jobs in the same way - it became pretty apparent that they were frustrated with the current options and wanted something easy, quick, practical and map-based - plus, crucially, independent and not owned by one of their competitors!!
So we expanded into Manure Maestro for manure planning and compliance, Nutrient Nerd for nutrient recommendations, and Crop Rex for crop protection recommendations.
We’re not pretending we’re the complete package yet, and the article is fair on that. But we are moving quickly. Nutrient Nerd and Crop Rex are now both live, refinements are going out every week, and we’re on track for a complete system ready for agronomists to use for the 26/27 cropping season.
What users tell us they want is pretty simple: something modern, independent and easy to use. That’s what the team (Benjamin Butler, Henry Deacy, Sabrina Sookramanien, Richard Hargreaves, Saachi Pahwa, Amalia Rebegea) has been building, and I’m really proud of how far we've got.

In England, you just need an email address and SBI number and can have a play. For the next few weeks we’re also making recommendations free, including the compliance checks, while we keep gathering feedback.
