It’s completely free to start using Soil Benchmark.
Without paying a penny you can add as many farms as you like, and use almost all the features of the platform.
Soil Sage
For free you can:
- view pre-populated soil type and texture maps from both Cranfield and BGS
- view pre-populated locations of waterways from OS and boreholes from BGS
- view pre-populated details of 14 sensitive areas from MAGIC maps, including SSSIs, NVZs, and more
- add (including via our rapid AI importer) soil samples from any lab, and see the results mapped across the farm
- take map snapshots to export all these map layers
- edit auto-suggested soil management actions
- review a draft Soil Management Plan for 3 fields on your farm
Nutrient Nerd
For free you can:
- edit pre-populated soil type values (derived from BGS data)
- add cropping and yield information for both arable and grassland fields
- add (including via our rapid AI importer) soil samples from any lab, and see the results mapped across the farm
- take map snapshots to export all these map layers
- review auto-generated RB209 recommendations
- add manure and fertiliser applications and receive live NVZ and RB209 compliance alerts
- review a draft Nutrient Management Plan for 3 fields on your farm

Crop Rex
For free you can:
- add and maintain price lists and review the cost of plans as you create them
- add manure and fertiliser recommendations and receive live NVZ and RB209 compliance alerts
- use sub-field areas to create applications
- share recommendations with clients (both on and off the platform) and track whether they have been applied
- convert recommendations into product orders
- create annual summary reports of products used and costs
- take map snapshots across the platform
As you can see we allow you to do and see a lot on Soil Benchmark for free. We only charge to export or share information outside the platform (via reports or our map snapshot feature).
Upgrading to each of our two Management Plan modes (Soil Sage and Nutrient Nerd) is charged per farm per year. Soil Sage allows you to create and export fully compliant Soil Management Plans for SFI SAM1 (worth £6 / ha), while Nutrient Nerd allows you to create and export fully compliant Nutrient Management Plans, for SFI NUM1, Environment Agency inspections, or Red Tractor compliance.
You only pay when you are ready, and you can choose to convert any number of the farms you have loaded onto the system, for only the plans you require. Discounts are automatically applied on Soil Sage for very small farms, scaling down to £100 per farm per year for the smallest farms (ensuring that SAM1 payments always cover the cost).

Crop Rex (with the ability to create and share spray recommendations) is currently free until 31st July while it's in beta-testing mode, and then will cost £500 per user per year to create Spray Recs for unlimited farms.
